Whose practice is this, anyway?

You know, and I know, that all of your competitors are seeking the same thing: a perfect planning practice. Not wanting to be left behind, you have read all the books, taken the classes, listened to your mentors, watched those who seem to have the Midas touch when it comes to building their business. But something doesn’t resonate with you.

How many times have you tried the cookie-cutter approach to building your business (you know: cold calls, warm leads, hot ideas as espoused by the gurus of the industry)? How many books and articles have you read about how to do this or that better, faster, smarter? Think of the sessions with your boss/manager/partner, where they urge you on to bigger numbers, more clients, and more “winning strategies.” Yet, throughout it all, something was missing.

Of the last three methods you have tried, how many of them made you feel like you had to be someone you aren’t in order to be successful with them? One? Two? All three? And, even if you were able to completely change yourself, how long would you be able to live with that person who isn’t really you? That hardly seems to be the path to greater success.

Maybe you have started to wonder, “Whose business is this, anyway?” You wonder if you were really cut out for this line of work; everyone seems to be urging you to follow this fool-proof formula or that never-fail approach. Despite the din of the crowds telling you what to do, you feel frustrated and alone. Your self-confidence is slowing eroding. Something is missing, but you’re not sure what.
